Childhood is such a brilliant adventure – a splendor, truly, to witness. It never ceases to amaze me how children grow with one another. They are captivated by simple things – dirt, bugs, mulberries on high branches, and much more. They care deeply; they share their love intricately. They are fearless and are willing to endure challenge that we tend to shy away from as we get older. They may fall, they may cry, but a new day is a new day to them; they try again.

I was a child once, captivated by the colors of the sky and the beetles in the sandpit. Overtime, life would show me that it held some dark patches. I would fall into the deception that the brightness I once believed in maybe was not so bright after all.

But God.

He took His time to bring people in my life (parents, friends, teachers, peers, and oftentimes providential strangers) who would show me His light. I would grow to learn that no amount of darkness could ever dim the light of Christ. I would come to fall in love with the Creator over and over again. I would learn to pray and have faith no matter the obstacle. I would learn that this love should never be kept to myself. Rather, it had to be shared with every single soul I was to encounter.

I’ve gotten older now and have been convicted to protect, support, teach, and pour into children at whatever stage they may be in. I became an educator because I wanted to not only share this love, light, and joy, but also wanted to help children hold their banner (see Exodus 17:8-16).

I was recently reminded of the importance of childlike faith – wholly dependent on the King of Kings with absolutely no reservation. Admittedly, I can say there have been many times in my life where I took the reins instead of letting Him reign over me. His mercy and grace still sought me out and I continue to grow.

In today’s society, the majority of a child’s development is from schooling due to a hyper obsession with producing consumers. Children are told what to think, how to think it, and where to apply that thinking. Where is the freedom that Christ so freely offers us?

Here, at TSCS, children are learners and free thinkers. We provide a myriad of experiences that challenge them holistically. They not only learn to be comprehensive discussants, mathematicians, and Kajaba Cancan players, but they also learn to love their neighbors, share their dreams, and grow in faith.

Being a part of this community is a testament to God’s unfailing love for us. Every effort made is to see a child as they are, God’s very own. With every generation of TSCS student, more beauty is poured into the communities they are in. May we continue to follow Christ and in turn, love His children well.
